This listing is for an antique trunk that once belonged to Sereno E. Payne
(June 26, 1843 – December 10, 1914)
New York state representative & 1st  Majority House leader  . Box has a hinged lid and is dovetailed ( finger joined) with an old reddish brown painted finish and 2 iron handles at each end. The Box stenciled Hon. Sereno E. Payne Auburn N.Y.. Inside the box we found an Official Directory of the United States House of Representatives , sixteenth Congress - first session ( 1908 ) with Sereno Payne listed.
Box was found in the barn of an old Adirondack estate and was likely used as a strong box or even a gunners hunting box.
Size - 24 " x 13 1/2" x 9 1/2" tall
Condition - Good condition with wear & scuffs  ( please see photos )
